FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA – On Friday, January 16, 2009 Cinema Arts Theatres in Fairfax, Virginia will screen two documentaries back-to-back that will give unique perspectives to the presidency of the forty-third president of the United States.
As America looks to a future of change, the pundits will provide their own spin on what the last 8 years have meant; CRAWFORD (2008) and PUBLIC WITNESS (2006) screen at a time of profound reflection for the entire country – red, blue, and everyone in between will be able come away with greater understanding into the divisions that have helped define the first chapter of the 21st Century.
CRAWFORD (crawfordmovie.com) an often funny, deeply human story told
by unforgettable characters. As witness to one man’s decision to intertwine his life with the real small town America, an extraordinary documentary by first-time filmmaker David Modigliani (who has been called one of the “next great Texas directors” and the “anti-Moore”), provides unforgettable acuity on the Bush presidency through the eyes of the 705 residents of Crawford, Texas, the film ultimately becomes a microcosm of a nation in flux — a unique and poignant reflection on the Bush era. Audience Award at Brooklyn Film Festival
“…a provocative, yet balanced, nonfiction portrait…” – Indiewire
“… a poignant account… populated with colorful, contrasting characters…” – Variety
PUBLIC WITNESS (publicwitnessmovie.com) is the first hand, personal narrative of where it all began; demonstrators and supporters tell the story of George W. Bush’s historic, and controversial, first day as President of the United States in this documentary from local independent filmmaker C.W. Prather. Featuring photography by Washington activist and photographer, Elvert Barnes, the music of Brendan Canty and including songs from hardcore D.C. legends, Fugazi and (D.C.) Youth Brigade, this work is an even handed document of those standing divided on the front lines of modern history. Closing Night Feature at the 2006 Denver Underground Film Festival
